What happens when I update a sequence?
Updating Sequences
When you update a sequence, the changes will automatically propagate to all active prospects in that sequence, with some important exceptions:
- Completed Steps: Changes to a step won’t affect prospects who have already completed that step.
- Completed/Canceled Sequences: Updates won’t affect prospects whose sequences are marked as completed or canceled.
What Gets Updated:
- Sequence timing - i.e. the delay between steps
- Email content (body, subject, links)
- LinkedIn messages and connection requests
- Automated video content
- Custom step information
- Wait times for connection requests
[!NOTE] Changes only affect steps that haven’t been completed yet. This ensures that prospects don’t receive duplicate messages or have their progress disrupted.
Automated Video Updates
If you update or add automated videos in a sequence:
- New videos will be added to pending steps
- Updated videos will replace existing ones that haven’t been completed
- Removed videos will be cleared from pending steps
Best Practices:
- Make sure to review all changes before updating a sequence
- Consider creating a new sequence for major changes if you want to preserve the exact flow for existing prospects
Structural Changes Not Applied
The following structural changes to a sequence will not affect existing enrollments:
- New Steps: Adding new steps to a sequence won’t add them to existing enrollments
- Removed Steps: Removing steps from a sequence won’t remove them from existing enrollments
- Flow Changes: Changes to the sequence flow (like reordering steps) won’t affect existing enrollments
These limitations ensure that prospects already enrolled in a sequence maintain their original sequence structure. If you need to make significant structural changes, consider creating a new sequence instead.
