Getting Started with Video Recording in Vaam

1. Installation of the Vaam Extension

Before you can start recording video in your Vaam video library, you need to install the Vaam extension for Chrome.

Steps to install the extension:

2. Initial Setup and Permissions

Once the extension is installed, there are a few initial setup steps to make recording easy and functional.

Steps for initial setup:

  • Pin the extension: Click on the little puzzle piece icon, typically located near the navigation bar in Chrome. Then, click on the pin icon. This action will make the Vaam icon visible directly in your toolbar for easy access.
  • Click the Vaam icon: Once pinned and visible, click the Vaam icon in your toolbar.
  • Allow Camera Access: You will be asked to allow Vaam to use your camera. The recommendation is to select “allow while visiting the site”.
  • Allow Microphone Access: Similarly, you will need to allow Vaam to use your microphone. The recommendation here is also to select “allow while visiting the site”.
  • Navigate Intros: Click through any introductory screens that appear.
  • Explore Settings: The video mentions that settings will be shown down below after these initial steps.

3. The Camera Bubble

After successful installation and setup, you will see your camera bubble.

  • This bubble can be moved around the screen.
  • You can also change the size of the camera bubble.

4. Recording Options

Vaam offers several options for what you want to record. These options are typically found down below the settings interface.

  • Current tab of Chrome: Records only the specific Chrome tab you are currently viewing.
  • A specific window: Allows you to select a particular application window to record.
  • Full screen: Records everything visible on your entire monitor(s).
  • Camera only: Records solely your camera feed without capturing the screen.

5. Using the “Camera Only” Mode

Selecting the “Camera only” option changes the interface. This mode is particularly useful if you only want to record yourself.

  • Teleprompter: When in “Camera only” mode, you can enable the teleprompter feature. This allows you to add your manuscript that you want to read. Using the teleprompter enables you to record and read off the manuscript, helping you create a very professional video easily.
  • Autoscroll: While the teleprompter is showing, you have the option to enable autoscroll. Autoscroll will automatically scroll the manuscript for you as you record.

6. Starting a Recording (Example: Recording a Window)

The video demonstrates starting a recording of a window. The general steps are applicable to other screen recording modes as well.

Steps to start recording:

  • Select your camera from the available options.
  • Select your microphone from the available options.
  • Click the “start record” button.
  • This action will open a new tab or prompt.
  • If you chose “window” or “screen”, you must now select exactly what you want to record.
  • Select the specific window or screen you wish to capture.
  • Click “share”.
  • You will be sent back to the original tab.
  • A countdown will appear.
  • Once the countdown finishes, you are now recording.

7. Managing the Recording

While a recording is active, you have several controls available.

  • You can still move around the camera bubble.
  • You can change the size of the camera bubble.
  • You can jump between tabs; everything on the screen you selected will be recorded.
  • You can pause the recording.
  • You can resume the recording.
  • To get out of the recording without saving, you can click the trash icon to delete it.
  • To start the recording process over, you can click the restart icon.

8. Completing and Sharing Your Video

Once you have finished your recording, you need to stop it to finalise the video.

Steps after recording is complete:

  • Click the “stop” button.
  • Vaam will upload the final pieces of your recording.
  • Your new recorded video will be shown.
  • From here, you can add a title to your video.
  • You can also share your Vaam video with others.
