Pausing a sequence

You can pause outreach in Vaam without cancelling it. Use this when you want to stop sends for a while, such as a summer break from June 15 to August 10. You can pick up exactly where you left off when you return.

Pausing is manual. There is no built-in scheduled pause, so you start and end it yourself.

Pause an entire sequence

This stops all prospects currently on the sequence.

  1. Go to the Sequences list.
  2. Open the actions menu on the sequence you want to pause.
  3. Click Pause sequence.

To resume, open the same menu and click Activate sequence.

Pause one prospect

Use this when you want to stop outreach for one person while the rest of the sequence keeps running.

  1. Open the Prospects view (or the Prospects tab on a sequence).
  2. Find the prospect, open the action menu, and click Pause.
  3. To resume, open the action menu again and click Resume.

What happens while paused

  • Scheduled steps are held. They are not skipped or cancelled.
  • New steps do not run until you resume.
  • The sequence remembers where each prospect is. When a prospect starts again, outreach continues from the next step.

Resuming respects your active prospect limit. Vaam starts as many prospects as you have free slots, oldest first. Everyone else moves to the queue and starts automatically as slots free up.

For example: your limit is 400, you already have 350 active prospects across your other sequences, and you resume a sequence with 200 paused prospects. The 50 oldest start right away, and the remaining 150 wait in the queue.

Queued prospects are not stuck. They keep their place in the sequence and continue from the next step once they start, exactly like the ones that resumed immediately. You don’t need to do anything.

Common scenarios

  • Pause the whole sequence before a holiday or vacation, then activate it again when you return.
  • Pause one prospect who is on leave or asked you to follow up later, then resume when the time is right.
  • If you are not sure about a sequence, pause it instead of cancelling it. You can review and update it without losing the prospects already on it.
